Unhappy with the way the 1948 Sedition Act has been abused of late, the Malaysian Bar marched to Parliament on 16 October 2014 to demand repeal of the Act.
Despite the heat, about 2,000 lawyers, NGO supporters, members f the public, and also the Orang Asli, gathered at Padang Merbok at 10.30am for the “justice and freedom walk against the Sedition Act”
The group began walking towards the Parliament at about 11.40am. Ten Bar members were allowed to go into parliament to hand over the memorandum to the representative of the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Mah Siew Keong.
The memorandum, among other things, called upon the Prime Minister to keep his 2012 promise to repeal the Act.
