Our main local contact person in the Pos Lanai-Pantos area in Northwest Pahang has been doing a great job in getting supplies to his people during the early days of the floods. Because this Semai village was a low-priority area, official help was not forthcoming.
With funds from the JOAS Flood Relief Fund, Jefri Hasan (@ Peli Uset) with the cooperation of the members of the community, was able to purchase and distribute essential foodstuffs and basic necessities to the two settlements there.
Especially affected was the small village of Kampung Bantal @ Serau which was totally cut off by road when the waters rose at Christmas. By 9am the waters were rising so fast that they all had to abandon the village and go to higher ground in their rubber smallholdings.
One expectant mother was so distressed by the impending danger that she delivered her child while the people were still trying to put up the temporary shelter. There was no midwife around but the others were able to ensure that Wak Kenik delivered her first-born safely.
Food and other supplies were restocked soon after when Bea-Meow, Jules Ong and team made supply stopovers (see: http://on.fb.me/13LnO0e)
